The 22nd staging of The People’s Festival was held Saturday, July 30th, 2016along the Christina River at Tubman Garrett Park in Wilmington, Delaware. Despite the scattered showers throughout the latter half of the day, many patrons celebrated in their tents, under their umbrellas or just danced in the rain until the last performance. The festival is an annual family friendly celebration to preserve and honor the legacy of Bob Marley.

Although it was a weekday and the show did not begin until 11:00pm, the room was still packed with Tarrus Riley fans for the just over ninety minute performance. The Blak Soil Band began to play a melody as the curtain raised prompting the crowd to rush to the front of the stage. Saxophonist, Dean Fraser, warmly greeted the crowd and welcomed Tarrus Riley on Stage.

Advertised as a family fun day, this festival was packed with activities for patrons of all ages. Upon entering the park the first thing I noticed was the large moon bounce for the children attending the festival. Next to the moon bounce was face painting and henna tattoos available. The Caribbean influenced festival was full of vendors of various Caribbean islands offering sugar cane, fresh coconut water, pina coladas, and various Caribbean specialities. Reggae shirts, hats, music, as well as African inspired clothing were available for purchase as well.
